Basketball Recap: Marion Beats Anderson for Their Third Straight Victory

Marion hadn't done well against Anderson recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Marion Giants came out on top against the Anderson Indians by a score of 61-49. For the Giants, this counts as revenge for the 71-11 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.

Marion's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nyomi Hahn, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. The game was Hahn's third in a row with at least ten points. Jaylee Townsend was another key player, going 6 for 12 on her way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ariah Scott, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 17 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Scott a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamyia Foster, who posted nine points and three steals.

The win was the third in a row for Marion, bringing their record for this year to 4-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Anderson, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Marion wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 54-48 defeat against Carroll on the 7th. As for Anderson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-31 loss against Harrison on the 7th.
