Video: Findlay Prep 2015-16 previewUnder head coach Andy Johnson, Pilots finished season ranked in the Top 25 nationally.Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) head coach Andy Johnson announced via Twitter on Tuesday night that he is leaving the program to take an assistant coaching position at Southern Utah University.
In Cedar City, Johnson will be reunited with Todd Simon – a former head coach and colleague at Findlay Prep who now leads the Southern Utah program.
Johnson posted a 57-5 record in two seasons at Findlay Prep, finishing the 2015-16 season ranked No. 16 nationally by MaxPreps and No. 6 in 2014-15.
Things were looking promising once again this upcoming season for the Pilots, especially with the addition of Minnesota transfer
Gary Trent Jr. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is regarded as a Top 10 national talent by
247Sports.
The development leaves Findlay Prep looking for its fifth head coach in the past six seasons. Jerome Williams (2013-14) and the aforementioned Simon (2012-13) lasted just one year while Michael Peck guided the program for five years prior to his departure in 2012.
Assistant coach Rodney Haddix has been named interim coach.
Since arriving on the scene in 2006, the suburban Las Vegas school has made a major impact on high school basketball. Eight former Pilots have been selected in the NBA Draft and Findlay Prep won a national title in 2008-09.
