Argyle is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Denton is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Argyle Eagles will take on the Denton Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Argyle knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Denton likes a good challenge.
Argyle put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season last Thursday. They blew past Independence 63-0 on the road. Given Argyle's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Independence is ranked 835th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Argyle found their leader in underclassman Maguire Gasperson, who threw for 131 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Krekeler, who rushed for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Denton didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Memorial on Friday, but they still walked away with a 25-21 victory.
LaMarques Robinson was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 206 yards. Jacobi Gladney was another key contributor, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Their wins bumped Argyle to 6-2 and Denton to 4-4.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Argyle has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Denton struggles in that department as they've been even better at 225.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Argyle against Denton when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 38-0 victory. Does Argyle have another victory up their sleeve, or will Denton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
