Softball Recap: Alexandria's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Alexandria waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Neville Tigers with a sharp 17-6 victory. Considering the Trojans have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mary Claire Brinkman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Jordyn Turner was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Marlie Fletcher was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5.

Alexandria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Alexandria's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Neville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alexandria will challenge Ruston at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alexandria is facing Ruston at the right time seeing as Ruston is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Neville, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Neville Tigers take on Ouachita Parish Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: Ouachita Parish has averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
