After four games on the road, McCool Junction is heading back home. They will take on the Nebraska Lutheran Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully McCool Junction is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Knights in Nebraska (the Mustangs are ranked 47th, while the Knights are ranked 200th).
McCool Junction put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat East Butler 77-35 on the road. With McCool Junction ahead 39-17 at the half, the game was all but over already.
McKenna Yates was her usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with six assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Briann Stutzman, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Nebraska Lutheran's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They fell just short of Dorchester by a score of 40-37.
Nebraska Lutheran's defeat came about despite a quality game from Marissa Endorf, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Rebecca Hueske was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
McCool Junction has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Nebraska Lutheran, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Everything came up roses for McCool Junction against the Knights when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 78-47 victory. With McCool Junction ahead 41-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
