Basketball Recap: Lourdes Central Catholic Falls Despite Big Games from Vance Poppleton and Brady Schnitzer

Lourdes Central Catholic was the 45-42 winner over Sidney when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Lourdes Central Catholic Knights lost 75-51 to the Sidney Cowboys on Saturday. The Knights were down 61-34 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Brady Schnitzer and Vance Poppleton certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Schnitzer went 7 of 15 en route to 20 points along with five rebounds and four blocks, while Poppleton posted 11 points and eight boards. Those four blocks gave Schnitzer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blue Oggs, who had seven points and five boards.

Lourdes Central Catholic's loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Sidney, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-7.

Lourdes Central Catholic is taking a road trip to challenge Lewiston at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sidney, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fremont-Mills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sidney knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Fremont-Mills likes a good challenge.
