Platte Valley scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Brush, 63-7. At the time, the Beetdiggers was ranked 17th in the state, while the Broncos was 66th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Platte Valley, who took down 17th ranked Brush, 63-7.
Britten Abbott and Austin Ekeler gave Eaton a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Abbott threw for 63 yards and two touchdowns, while Ekeler ran for 308 yards. Teammate Chad Foos added to the ground attack by rushing for 68 yards.
Victor Delgado made the biggest impact on defense this week as Valley bested Fort Lupton. The 5-foot-10 sophomore pulled down two interceptions.
Kyle Weingardt was the best wideout in 2A Patriot this week as Sterling lost to Strasburg. Weingardt racked up four receptions for 92 yards. Jordan Jackson helped Sterling's passing attack out by catching three balls for 31 yards.
The Blue Devils' Jeff Merritt and Jalen Vasquez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Merritt has thrown for 766 yards this season, while Vasquez, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 22 catches for 399 yards. Ekeler from the Reds leads the league in rushing with 935 yards.
Eaton's Ekeler is a mere 65 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Indians take on Troy Hoffman's team. At the moment, Strasburg is in second, while the Broncos are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Jeff Giger's team takes on Platte Valley. The Indians have allowed 65 points this season, while the Broncos have given up 74. Strasburg allowed 13 points last week as it defeated the Tigers.
Mitchel Martin and Brian Nichols provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Sterling. The connection was good for 80 yards, the longest such play in 2A Patriot this season.
