Basketball Recap: Midland Sets Scoring Season-High Against Burges

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Midland). They walked away with a 62-49 victory over the Burges Mustangs on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Burges still got an impressive performance from Anthony Rubio, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks gave Rubio a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob Licerio, who posted nine points.

The win was the third in a row for Midland, bringing their record for this year to 9-11. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Burges, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Midland has already played their next contest, a 68-47 loss against Del Rio on the 27th. As for Burges, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 82-42 defeat against Weatherford on the 27th.
