The Belfry Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 55-43 to Mingo Central. While losing is never fun, Belfry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 233rd in Kentucky, while the Miners are ranked 89th in West Virginia).
Belfry's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Makaden Maynard, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, and Eric Daniels who scored eight points along with ten rebounds. Caden Woolum was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Even though they lost, Belfry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Belfry has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Mingo Central, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
Belfry will be playing at home against the Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mingo Central will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th.
