Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Yangel Malpica, who posted 12 points in addition to six assists and six steals. Malpica has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last six times he's played. Gabe Haynes was another key player, going 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points.
It was another big night for Wilmer De La Rosa, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 15 boards for Pine Ridge. With that strong performance, De La Rosa is now averaging an impressive 3 blocks per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadin Pierce-Flores, who went 5 for 8 en route to 12 points and three steals.
Gateway's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Pine Ridge, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-17.
Looking ahead, Gateway will challenge Auburndale at 7:00 p.m. on February 12th. Gateway knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Auburndale likes a good challenge. As for Pine Ridge, they have already played their next game, a 71-60 loss against New Smyrna Beach on the 7th.
