West Vigo and Edgewood are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Vikings will square off against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
West Vigo lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Owen Valley, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's matchup. The Vikings put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 12-2 victory on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Edgewood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Irvington Preparatory Academy on Friday as they made off with a 12-2 win. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Braxton Carpenter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over 5.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Edgewood is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Carpenter was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Richey, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Anthony Shields was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Edgewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
West Vigo's record is now 8-3. As for Edgewood, their record now sits at 4-5.
West Vigo came out on top in a nail-biter against Edgewood in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
