The Monterey Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 16th straight defeat. They fell 54-44 to Watertown. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Monterey of the 49-41 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gustavo Galindez, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Galindez has scored all season. Aiden Roberson-Barber was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Monterey dropped their record down to 2-24 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Watertown, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monterey will take on the Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. York Institute presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wildcats in Tennessee (the Dragons are ranked 124th, while the Wildcats are ranked 418th). As for Watertown, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Owls at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. One thing working in Smith County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
