The Forest Wildcats will square off against the Gainesville Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Forest took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against DeLand as Forest made off with a 16-5 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Makenna Boyd tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Mahri Lingle was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Prestipino, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Forest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gainesville). They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Bell on Saturday.
The team relied heavily on Braylin Cook, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Emma Barton also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Gainesville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Forest now has a winning record of 4-3.
Forest's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. Forest has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Gainesville, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Forest continue to outrun the ball?
Forest might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Gainesville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Forest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
