Hattiesburg is 6-0 against West Jones since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hattiesburg Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the West Jones Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Hattiesburg is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 15 games.
Hattiesburg posted their biggest victory since November 16, 2023 on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 75-51 margin over Heidelberg. Given Hattiesburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Heidelberg is ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hattiesburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Logan Burns, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Stephen McCullon Jr. was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Meanwhile, West Jones came up short against Bay Springs on Saturday and fell 62-51.
Hattiesburg's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for West Jones, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Hattiesburg didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against West Jones when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 76-71 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hattiesburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
