Even though the Cactus Shadows Falcons scored an imposing 63 points on Wednesday, the Mesquite Wildcats still came out on top. Mesquite managed a 68-63 victory over Cactus Shadows. The score was all tied up 31-31 at the break, but Mesquite was the better team in the second half.
Leading Mesquite to victory were Christian Garven and Desean Middlebrook. Garven scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while Middlebrook scored 24 points. The match was Garven's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Jaylen Wollangk was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six assists.
Mesquite is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Cactus Shadows, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mesquite won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Carl Hayden Community at 2:30 p.m. on December 28th. Carl Hayden Community will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Mesquite is ranked 18th). Cactus Shadows won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Saguaro at 11:30 a.m. on December 28th. Saguaro is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
