River Valley hasn't had much luck against Lexington recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Vikings will host the Minutemen at 5:00 p.m. River Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
River Valley came out on top against Highland on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Vikings skirted past the Fighting Scots 6-4. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Fighting Scots: they've now won five in a row.
The team relied heavily on Samantha Woods, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Addi Braun was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lexington waltzed into their match on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Colts.
Makaree Chapman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Addy Williams was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
Lexington's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for River Valley, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
Both River Valley and Lexington just can't seem to miss. The Vikings have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Lexington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
River Valley might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Lexington in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Vikings have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
