The Jefferson Silver Foxes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 18th straight loss. They took a serious blow against El Paso, falling 49-22. While losing is never fun, Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1445th, while El Paso is ranked 563rd).
El Paso's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalia Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds. Thomas hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 22 straight games. Another player making a difference was Amaris Ambriz, who scored 13 points along with seven steals and five assists.
Jefferson dropped their record down to 3-21 with that loss, which was their tenth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.1 points per game. As for El Paso, their victory bumped their record up to 20-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson will take on Andress at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Andress has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for El Paso, they will head out on the road to challenge Burges at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Burges is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
