Drake Christen and offensive lineman
Tim Gardner, who will play at Ohio State University.
On Jan. 25, the Bears celebrated yet another first. The 8th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard chose Lawrence Central High School as one of the top football teams in the country. MaxPreps and the Army National Guard have honored America's finest high school football teams with the prestigious Army National Guard national ranking trophy.
The Bears were ranked No. 21 out of 16,000 schools in the nation according to the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings. Prior to the basketball game Friday evening, MaxPreps praised the team for its outstanding accomplishments. The crowd was reminded of the grueling match-up between Snider and Lawrence Central. Fans, parents, coaches and players went wild as they recalled their Bears coming out victorious to clinch the Indiana 5A state championship.
The highlight of the evening was when Staff Sergeant Douglas Fithen of the Indiana Army National Guard presented the team with Army National Guard national ranking trophy and a banner to proudly display in their gym for their accomplishments. SSG Filthen congratulated head coach Jayson West and his team for their indomitable spirit and for the dedication of each player, because it takes not just a few players but the whole team to be the best.
This award will be a reminder for each player of the hard, grueling practices that resulted in Lawrence Central's first perfect season and first state championship. Go Bears!
