The Manteno Panthers entered their tilt with the Herscher Tigers with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Manteno walked away with a 40-30 win over the Tigers on Thursday. That's another feather in the cap for Manteno, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Manteno found their leader in underclassman Maddie Gesky, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds. Gesky is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Sosnowski, who scored five points along with 11 steals.
Manteno pushed their record up to 16-10 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Herscher, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manteno will face off against the Coalers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Coal City presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Panthers in Illinois (the Coalers are ranked 157th, while the Panthers are ranked 340th). As for Herscher, they will head out on the road to square off against the Blue Devils at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Peotone will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.
