Softball Recap: Heritage Hills Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Heritage Hills barely beat Mt. Vernon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Patriots never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won seven in a row.

Miriam Gordon and Mia Kiegel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gordon pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Kiegel didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Gordon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Gordon went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Kiegel went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most runs Gordon has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Avery Sabelhaus was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Sierra Wargel, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Heritage Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive games.

Heritage Hills pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heritage Hills will take on Daviess County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mt. Vernon, they will challenge Pike Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
