The Chatham Charter Knights came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 56-55 win over Providence Grove. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Chatham Charter got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Meah Brooks out in front who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds. The game was Brooks' 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Delana Loflin, who scored 16 points.
Providence Grove's loss came despite strong showings from JADA NIXON and LAUREL BERNHARDT. NIXON scored 20 points along with six steals, while BERNHARDT scored 16 points along with six rebounds. NIXON scored a full 36.4% of Providence Grove's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. LEELA VONDERHEY was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Providence Grove were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Chatham Charter's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. As for Providence Grove, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chatham Charter will take on Woods Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Woods Charter will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 608th, while Chatham Charter is ranked 133rd). As for Providence Grove, they will be playing at home against Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Trinity comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
