The Calvary Baptist Cougars will square off against the Cornerstone Christian Crusaders at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calvary Baptist is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 14.9 runs per game this season.
Calvary Baptist is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at the hands of Bethel Christian.
Reagan Hanson put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and 13 unearned) runs off five hits. Hanson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Bri Rosales and Isabella Macias stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rosales scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Macias scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Brianna Even was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Christian lost 19-7 to Bethel Christian on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Crusaders have lost by exactly 12 runs.
Cornerstone Christian saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Alexander, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Alexander also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season.
This is the second loss in a row for Cornerstone Christian and nudges their season record down to 1-6. As for Calvary Baptist, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Calvary Baptist has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cornerstone Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Calvary Baptist took their victory against Cornerstone Christian in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 23-0 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
