The South Central Satellites are taking a road trip to square off against the Kankakee Valley Kougars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
South Central is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Boone Grove just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 4-3.
Maddy Cleek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, South Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Burns, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Kankakee Valley came up short against Illiana Christian on Friday and fell 12-8.
Mallorie Rose was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Rose was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Hailey Shepherd made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madalynn Hemphill, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
South Central's record is now 15-6. As for Kankakee Valley, their record now sits at 16-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. South Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Kankakee Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
