The Overland Trailblazers will venture away from home to take on the Adams City Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Overland is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Gateway hit Overland with a five-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trailblazers fell 11-7 to the Olympians.
James Wethington was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Adams City hadn't beaten Aurora Central on the road since May 2, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Eagles came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 11-7.
Christian Ramirez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Ramirez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Gonzalez, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jiovani Barajas, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Adams City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive games.
Adams City is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Overland, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Overland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Adams City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Overland came up short against Adams City when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 9-6. Can the Trailblazers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
