The Bishop's Knights are taking a road trip to square off against the Coastal Academy Stingrays at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Bishop's after they put the first runs on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 7-4 to Tri-City Christian. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Sydney Mafong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jayla Stafford was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Coastal Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Valley Center 8-1 on Monday. The Stingrays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Sunday Mcduffee made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Mcduffee was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cayla Contreras, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Coastal Academy's record now sits at 7-3. As for Bishop's, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3-1.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bishop's has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. However, it's not like Coastal Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop's couldn't quite get it done against Coastal Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 as they fell 7-3. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
