The Teague Lions suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 72-50 loss at the hands of Westwood. While losing is never fun, Teague can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1028th, while Westwood is ranked 292nd).
Despite the loss, Teague had strong showings from Joshua Owens, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three blocks, and Jkybryen Harris, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Owens has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kemauri Evans, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Westwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kavian Bryant, who scored 18 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Bryant is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tj Davis, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Teague has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Westwood, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-5.
Teague will be playing at home against Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westwood, they will head out on the road to take on Mexia at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mexia is on a seven-game streak of home wins, Westwood a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
