Cotulla hasn't had much luck against Lytle recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cowboys will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Cotulla turned things around against La Pryor last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cowboys have posted since February 20th.

Frank Torres made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Garret Crain was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Hector Munoz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Lytle sidestepped Karnes City for an 8-6 victory.
The team relied heavily on Toby Davila, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Lytle's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 10-1 (and 3-5-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Weston Jackson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Cotulla's win bumped their record up to 3-12-1. As for Lytle, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6-1.
Cotulla suffered a grim 22-1 defeat to Lytle in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Cowboys avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
