After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Whitmer, the Clay Eagles were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Springfield by a score of 45-35. Given Clay's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while Springfield is ranked 687th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Springfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Adams, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Pope, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Springfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Clay pushed their record up to 4-3 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Springfield, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay will face off against Southview at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Southview will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Springfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Ross at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Ross and Springfield are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
