The West Orange Warriors waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Eustis with points to spare, taking the game 58-44. Given West Orange's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Eustis is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Zoe Calvez was her usual excellent self, going 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 0 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zulmalyz Sanchez, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Eustis still got an impressive performance from Alana Seward, who scored 30 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Seward also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Dakeria Brown was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and six assists.
West Orange is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Eustis, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.
West Orange will be playing at home against Apopka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Apopka focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 last Wednesday. As for Eustis, they will head out on the road to challenge Tavares at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Tavares is on a three-game streak of home losses, Eustis a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
