The Gateway Gators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Central Catholic Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Gateway on the road against Norwin as the squad secured a 48-20 win. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Gateway had established a 27 point advantage.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic took their match at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-7 win over Seneca Valley. Given Central Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked second, while Seneca Valley is ranked 88th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Central Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elijah Faulkner led the charge by rushing for 134 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Faulkner hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Payton Wehner, who threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt.
Gateway has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Central Catholic, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.
Gateway came up short against Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 27-14. Will Gateway have more luck at home instead of on the road?
