It was a good run, but the Mooresville Pioneers unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Evansville North. Mooresville lost against Evansville North in their previous head to head back in December of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 55-51 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Mooresville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rachel Harshman. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Harshman scored a full 36.2% of Mooresville's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Mcginley, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, Mooresville were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Evansville North only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Evansville North was led to victory by Vanessa Nankwenya and Maddy Knies. Nankwenya scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Knies dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Nankwenya scored 15 or more points. Brooke Silva was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Mooresville's loss dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Evansville North, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mooresville is on the road again on January 5, 2024 and play against Franklin Community at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Franklin Community is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Mooresville a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Evansville North, they will head out on the road to face off against Evansville Bosse at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Evansville Bosse has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 16.
