Katelynn Mathews spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaylyn Yi was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Melia Vera was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rosary Academy won against Roosevelt on Thursday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Royals put the hurt on Los Alamitos with a sharp 8-1 win. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Rosary Academy also got a great performance from Ava Phillips as she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on K'Lene Gutierrez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Domonique McCoy, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Rosary Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Fullerton's record now sits at 12-4. As for Rosary Academy, their record is now 14-2-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Fullerton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rosary Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Fullerton might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Rosary Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
