Scappoose has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Astoria Fishermen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Scappoose is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Astoria in Oregon (Scappoose is ranked 24th, while Astoria is ranked 118th).
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Scappoose, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 46-29 loss to Tillamook.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Cayden Baker, who rushed for 61 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Nowlin, who threw for 270 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Astoria's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Seaside at home and fell 42-7.
Scappoose's defeat dropped their record down to 7-1, while Astoria's bumped their own down to the opposite: 1-7.
Scappoose took their win against Astoria in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 34-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for Scappoose since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
