Dayten DiOrio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Caysen Bamford was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, while Platte Valley put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Brush. The Broncos put the hurt on the Beetdiggers with a sharp 8-0 victory. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Dagan Gomez's shutout, as he gave up just four hits.
At the plate, Mason Hunt and Hudson Flummerfelt did most of the damage at the plate: Hunt went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Flummerfelt went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Flummerfelt is becoming a predictor of Platte Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Cooper Moffatt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Platte Valley and bumps their season record up to 12-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Sterling, the defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 8-4.
Everything went Sterling's way against Platte Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Sterling made off with a 12-2 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
