Clovis East hasn't had much luck against Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Timberwolves will head out on the road to challenge the Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. Clovis East's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Clovis East's tournament run continued when they took on Madera on Tuesday. The Timberwolves came out on top against the Coyotes by a score of 5-1. The victory continues a trend for the Timberwolves in their matchups with the Coyotes: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Savannah Villegas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Aliana Fierro was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Central came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. Four seems to be a good number for the Grizzlies as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Not much got past Kaia Galaviz, who gave up just five hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Edison off the board. Galaviz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kalena Olmos was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ella Bakholdin, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Clovis East's record now sits at 13-4-1. As for Central, their record is now 17-1-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clovis East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Clovis East suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Central when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Timberwolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
