St. Albans gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the St. Paul's Crusaders 29-28. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bulldogs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked seventh in District of Columbia, while the Crusaders are ranked 88th in Maryland).
St. Albans' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Will Martin, who rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown. Zahir Cobb was another key player, picking up 99 receiving yards and one score.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Albans will take on Bishop O'Connell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Paul's, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Archbishop Curley at 3:30 p.m. on the 19th.
