Softball Recap: Mckenna Drew Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Shawnee

Benton's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They never let the Shawnee Redskins get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rangers, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Avery Thomas (2027) made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Thomas (2027) was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, McKenna Drew was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Ellie Price was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Benton's record is now 9-7. As for Shawnee, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benton will welcome DuQuoin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Shawnee, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Elverado at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
