The Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Hoover by a score of 65-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Saturday (56), Rancho Buena Vista still had to take the loss.
Rancho Buena Vista lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ayden Horn, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Shay Todd, who scored 12 points.
It was another big night for Amanuel Tesfahunegn, who scored 27 points for Hoover. Santiago Estrada was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Rancho Buena Vista's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 10-6. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only three points. As for Hoover, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rancho Buena Vista won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Rancho Bernardo at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Rancho Bernardo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 849th, while Rancho Buena Vista is ranked 168th). As for Hoover, they will head out on the road to face off against University City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. University City knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Hoover likes a good challenge.
