Basketball Recap: Philip Simmons Takes a Loss

Philip Simmons was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 54-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Burke Bulldogs. The Iron Horses were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Philip Simmons lost, don't look at Kenira Holmes. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Holmes is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Ava Harkey also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, Philip Simmons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burke only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

Burke's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryanna Graham led the charge by going 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight steals and six assists. What's more, Graham also racked up six rebounds, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nathaya Phoenix, who went 7 for 10 en route to 16 points along with six boards and four blocks.

Philip Simmons' defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Burke, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Philip Simmons wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 39-26 win against Academic Magnet on the 17th. As for Burke, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-28 victory against Woodland on the 17th.
