First Baptist has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Temple Christian Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. First Baptist has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 498 points over their last nine games.
First Baptist put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past Bishop Gorman 61-0 at home. Given First Baptist's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Bishop Gorman is ranked 1169th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
First Baptist's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Alijah Cason, who gained 229 total yards and three touchdowns, and Hunter McCoy, who threw for 433 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 19.7 yards per attempt. McCoy hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for six straight games. Dylan Jones did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 87 receiving yards.
First Baptist's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Kore Thomas and his 2.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, Temple Christian took a serious blow against Lubbock Christian on Friday, falling 50-6. Temple Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-6.
First Baptist's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Temple Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: First Baptist has been unstoppable in the air this season, having averaged 354.6 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Temple Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 39.8 per game. How will Temple Christian fare against such a dominant passing game?
First Baptist might still be hurting after the 63-42 defeat they got from Temple Christian in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can First Baptist avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
