It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Ransom Everglades and snuck past 47-44. The victory was just what Calvary Christian Academy needed coming off of a 55-33 loss in their prior contest.
Leading Calvary Christian Academy to victory were Teagan Wakefield and Taryn Wakefield. Wakefield scored 16 points along with five rebounds, while Wakefield scored 20 points along with five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wakefield has scored at least a third of Calvary Christian Academy's points.
Ransom Everglades' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabriela Pena, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Pena has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times she's played. Holly Clement was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
Calvary Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Ransom Everglades, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-9.
Calvary Christian Academy will head out on the road to square off against NSU University at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. NSU University is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Ransom Everglades, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Westminster Christian at 7:30 p.m.
