The Nitro Wildcats entered their tilt with the Winfield Generals with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Nitro managed a 52-46 victory over Winfield on Friday. That's two games straight that Nitro has won by exactly six points.
Nitro was led to victory by Natalie Smith and Karson Jones. Smith scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks, while Jones dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was Jones' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Cawley, who scored nine points.
Winfield lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Antonela Johnson, who scored 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. Kaitlyn Sayre was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Winfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Nitro's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Winfield, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Nitro won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Riverside at 5:00 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Riverside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Wednesday. As for Winfield, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Ripley at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Ripley is ranked 38th, while Winfield is ranked 36th).
