O'Neill hasn't had much luck against Battle Creek recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Eagles will take on the Braves in a tournament on Saturday.
On Thursday, O'Neill didn't have quite enough to beat Cedar Catholic and fell 2-1. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Trojans 25-15 in the first set.
O'Neill started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The final score came out to 15-25, 25-17, 25-21.
Meanwhile, Battle Creek earned a 2-0 victory over Wisner-Pilger on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won three in a row.
Battle Creek easily took the first set, but they let things get interesting in the other. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-20.
Battle Creek's win came from a few key players O'Neill will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Marissa Hitz, who had 11 assists and four aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali Korth, who had five kills, four digs, and two aces.
Battle Creek's victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for O'Neill, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
O'Neill couldn't quite get it done against Battle Creek in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
