The Bishop Badgers will square off against the Carroll Tigers at 11:15 a.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Bishop beats Carroll with nine runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went Bishop's way against Laredo LBJ on Thursday as Bishop made off with a 9-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Badgers.
Bishop got a great performance from Cambrie Rios as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Amanda Muniz, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Ramirez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Carroll put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Veterans Memorial by a score of 6-1.
Isabella Montalvo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Talina Valdez was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Benasia Ellison was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Carroll always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Veterans Memorial only posted an OBP of .294.
Carroll pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs over those games. As for Bishop, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
Bishop skirted past Carroll 4-2 in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Will Bishop repeat their success, or does Carroll have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
