In what's become a running theme this season, the Stone Tomcats gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They blew past East Central 66-46. Given Stone's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Hornets are ranked 290th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stone was led to victory by Ray Dennis and Jabori Moye. Dennis scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Moye dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Moye pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of JaKobey Johnson, who scored five points along with six rebounds and six blocks.
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brody Howard, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Cartavious Myers, who scored 13 points.
Stone is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for East Central, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Stone will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Vancleave is no doubt hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses. As for East Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the War Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Wayne County is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.
