Even though the Norman Thomas Tigers have not done well against Rustin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Norman Thomas came out on top in a nail-biter against Rustin and snuck past 65-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Norman Thomas had a senior duo take command as Jaden Hernandez scored 18 points along with three steals and Jason Guzman scored 13 points along with eight steals. The contest was Hernandez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Jaden Chazulle was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Norman Thomas and bumps their season record up to 3-5. As for Rustin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
Norman Thomas will head out on the road to face off against St. Joseph Regional at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rustin will be home for the holidays to greet Stuyvesant at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
