NEWBERRY, Fla. - After four lead changes,
Newberry (Fla.) took the lead for good when
Ra'kheem Hoyt ran for a touchdown with 9:00 to go in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Baldwin (Fla.) 38-34 on Saturday.
After trailing 25-13 at the half, the Indians went ahead on a touchdown with 6:00 left in the third.
Newberry saw its 12-point halftime lead fall to five entering the fourth.
Mullis Jordan played well for Baldwin. The senior quarterback threw four touchdowns. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Hoyt was the top performer for NHS. The senior running back ran for five touchdowns. He has now scored 19 touchdowns on the season.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Panthers' close 27-25 loss to BHS last season.
With the win Newberry extended its winning streak to four games.
Newberry (7-2) will play a 1A District 7 game against Union County next week, while Baldwin (3-5) will take on Chiefland also in a 1A District 7 game.
