Basketball Recap: Standley Lake Piles Up the Points Against Pomona

A well-balanced attack led Standley Lake over Pomona in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Standley Lake Gators blew the Pomona Panthers out of the water with a 67-11 final score. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 30 points or more this season.

Standley Lake was led to victory by Sydney Martin and Mikela Alvarado. Martin went 6 of 13 on her way to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals, while Alvarado went 7 for 11 en route to 15 points and three steals. Alvarado is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rae Coronado, who posted six points and three steals.

Standley Lake has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Pomona, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-14.

Standley Lake will square off against Evergreen at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Addie McEvers and Martin. As for Pomona, they will face off against Dakota Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
