The Choctaw County Chargers will take on the Noxubee County Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Choctaw County will be strutting in after a victory while Noxubee County will be coming in after a loss.
Choctaw County is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Aberdeen: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Chargers blew the Bulldogs out of the water with a 43-8 final score. The Chargers have beaten the Bulldogs the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Jeramiah Miller was his usual excellent self, rushing for 158 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 42 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Aston Lilley, who picked up 100 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Choctaw County's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Benjarvius Shumaker, Erion Rogers, and Vez Holman, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Aberdeen's side was Shumaker, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Noxubee County's game on Friday was all tied up 6-6 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 31-26 to Winona. Noxubee County hasn't had much luck with Winona recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Although Noxubee County took the loss, they still got scores from Laderoun Mosely, Keon Mason, Jykeim Goodwin, and Christon Glenn.
Noxubee County's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Choctaw County, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Choctaw County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 201 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Noxubee County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 222.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Choctaw County beat Noxubee County 34-27 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
