The Wylie Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Rider Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Wylie had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Plainview and snuck past 36-34. Given Wylie's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Plainview is ranked 339th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Malachi Daniels was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 185 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryant Meng, who threw for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Rider made easy work of Cooper two Thursdays ago and carried off a 42-21 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Rider just coasted through the last quarter.
Kenji Johnson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.
Wylie's win was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 4-2. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 4-2 Plainview and 4-2 Stephenville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.1% over those games). As for Rider, their victory two Thursdays ago also bumped their record up to 4-2.
Wylie barely slipped by Rider in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, winning 39-38. Will Wylie repeat their success, or does Rider have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
